Alan Sparhawk of Low follows up his acclaimed 2024 album White Roses, My God by drawing on the roots, folk, and bluegrass styles of his friends and neighbors in Duluth, Trampled by Turtles.

During his years with Low, he created decades of moving music with his wife, Mimi Parker. In recent years, he has been seen around Minnesota playing in a funk band with his son Cyrus, which also features guest appearances from his daughter Hollis as a vocalist. Those who know you truly understand you. That’s why it makes sense that Sparhawk turned to his Duluth colleagues, Trampled by Turtles, for his new album. As friends and admirers of Low, they invited Sparhawk to join their tour after Mimi’s passing in 2022, surrounding him with companionship and support. Occasionally, he would step onto the stage. And when playing together is so powerful, why stop there? That’s how With Trampled by Turtles was born—a collective album. Communal. Fraternal. Empathetic. A refuge for solace.
